  • Introduction and Application of G Series Gravel Pumps

    G (or GH) type gravel pumps are mainly used for the continuous conveying of highly abrasive materials with particles too large for ordinary slurry pumps. They are suitable for dredging operations, river dredging, mining, and conveying blast slag in metal smelting, etc. The GH type is a high-head gravel pump.

    This pump adopts a single pump casing structure with a cartridge connection, and has a wide flow passage. The flow components use wear-resistant materials such as hard nickel and high chromium. The pump discharge port can be positioned at any angle within 360°, offering convenient installation and use, good cavitation performance, and abrasion resistance.

    G Series Gravel Pump Sealing Methods

    Sealing methods include: packing seal, pressure relief cover-impeller seal, mechanical seal.

    Packing seal is a common type of shaft seal, suitable for various operating conditions. It can be matched with special materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene packing and graphite packing, and can be used under corrosive or high-temperature conditions. It has the advantages of simple structure and convenient maintenance. However, shaft sealing water is required, and sufficient water pressure and flow rate must be ensured. The shaft sealing water pressure is the pump outlet pressure plus 35 kPa (0.35 kg/cm2), and the shaft sealing water flow rate depends on the size of the bracket; see the table below.

    The impeller seal uses the pressure generated by the impeller and the series-connected auxiliary impeller for sealing. It is generally used in cases with pressurized feeding, but the feeding pressure should not exceed 10% of the pump outlet pressure. This type of seal does not require shaft sealing water (lubricating grease is added periodically through the oil cup on the pump body) and does not dilute the slurry; however, it will increase power consumption (generally needs to increase the rated power by about 5%).

    Gravel pumps can also use mechanical seals, which have better sealing performance, but are more expensive and require shaft sealing water as required.
